I’m sharing this story with a heavy heart, not to shame but to educate others and help prevent anyone from falling victim as I did. The woman in question, Esther Ekaete Sunday, worked as my nanny From May 2023 until December 5, 2024. She seemed like a trustworthy member of my family, someone I was comfortable entrusting with my children. Unfortunately, my trust was betrayed in a way I never imagined.
It all began when I discovered that over 20 bottles of my diffusers had gone missing. To my shock, these items were being sold through her online store. At first, I couldn’t comprehend it. How could someone I welcomed into my home and treated as family do this? However, it didn’t stop at diffusers. With the help of a friend, I tried to purchase items from her anonymously, but she caught on and quickly blocked me once contacted. I kept calm, not letting her know I was on to her, and involved the police.
What I discovered broke my heart. Her home was like a small marketplace, filled with stolen goods—from brand-new baby clothes to pots and even some of my personal and intimate belongings. The items advertised on her WhatsApp business page weren’t fully accounted for, and further questioning revealed her sister was in possession of some of them.
This experience has been deeply upsetting, but I am sharing it because families like mine deserve to be safe. Esther is still in police custody, but I worry that once the dust settles, she will apply for work under a new agency, using a fabricated story like “the family relocated.”
To other families out there, let this serve as a reminder to stay vigilant while also being kind. It’s possible to trust, but trust doesn’t mean letting your guard down completely.
Stay safe, stay aware, and let’s look out for one another.

Reason for leaving: She stole
